The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made. And the activity of making them changes both the maker and their destination.
Today is Palm Sunday. It is a day when we hear familiar readings about the Passion of Jesus – a story of his last days on earth – the days that led up to his crucifixion. We understand that Jesus walked willingly into the darkness.
I recently came across a lovely poem by Dan Turner entitled, What Kind of God. The last line of the poem expresses well Christ’s mission.
My God . . . seeking darkness . . . to scatter Light. To scatter Light.
May we remember, when we find ourselves in the midst of darkness, that we, too, are called to scatter Light.

I love the story of the woman at the well in the Gospel of John – there is so much to reflect on – so many nuggets of wisdom. These words of Jesus offer such promise, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship God in Spirit and truth; and indeed God seeks people to worship in this way. God is Spirit, and those who worship must worship in Spirit and truth.”
Even during Lent – even in our darker days – the Spirit is with us.
In today’s Psalm, we respond with the words, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” What better words to repeat?! What better mantra can we find than to remind ourselves of this truth?
In today’s reading from Romans 10:8-13, Paul writes “The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.”
We so often look and listen around us for God’s voice – for direction – for wisdom. Could it be that what we need is a little less noise – a little less searching – and a lot more quiet listening to the Spirit who dwells within. How much more intimate can God be than in our mouth and in our hearts?
We live on the brink of disaster because we do not know how to let life alone. We do not respect the living and fruitful contradictions and paradoxes of which true life is full.
