Love Never Fails

Today’s reading is that beloved passage from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians about love.
It speaks for itself.

bolinas_december_2011_046Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

  1. Definately one of my favourites this scripture. Sometimes I change the wording if reading with someone who needs some encouragement. For example – Pat is patient, Pat is kind. She is not jealous, is not pompous, is not inflated, is not rude, does not seek her own interests, is not quick-tempered, does not brood over injury, does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Sometimes we have a need to see we too can be Love.

    • Dear Keith! It’s a long time since i’ve seen you, hope all is well. 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 is also one of my favourite scriptures. I understand what you mean by using “pat”, but to me, it sounds difficult. I will put only God there. God is patient, God is kind. I’m a human being and we are.. simply human.

      • Yes, I agree that Pat (me) is definitely not patient and kind, perhaps I could grow into that more and more by believing and giving witness to that God nature/likeness that I cover up so much of the time. Simply human can be wonderfully human! Easter blessings to you!!!

  2. Nice to meet you, Pat. I had no idea that it was your name Keith used, but of course you took the point anyway. I too do believe that being devoted to Christ, we can grow more like Him. But being descibed as something I not am, has never appealed to me.
I love your site here, with the beautiful quotes and matching images, and would like to it to “My community”.
