Dominican Preaching through Word and Image
The world is holy. We are holy. All life is holy. Daily prayers are delivered on the lips of breaking waves, the whisperings of grasses, the shimmering of leaves.
– Terry Tempest Williams, from Talking to God: Portrait of a World at Prayer (anthology)
One need only look at the sky after a storm or feel the crunch of autumn leaves beneath one’s
feet or watch the ebb and flow of the tides to know the presence of the Creator. War and
violence are an affront to the human spirit seeking God in the wonders of creation.
Friend and foe alike seek that which is beautiful. The final scene in the film “All Quiet
on the Western Front” finds a young German soldier killed as from his trench, he reaches
for a flower.
Thank you, Jean. Didn’t Lillian Hellman have something to do with that? Did you ever see the movie “Julia?”
