Wednesday of Hope – Not Giving Up to Despair

I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. On this Independence Day, how should we judge ourselves?

When I came across these words by Nelson Mandela, I recalled similar words that I had seen at the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC.
