The Future We Are Creating

The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made. And the activity of making them changes both the maker and their destination.

Wednesday of Hope – Crumple Up Your Faith

Faith is crumpling and throwing away everything, proposition by proposition, until nothing is left, and then writing a new proposition, your very own, to throw in the teeth of despair.

Gifting Our World with Appreciation

The world has enough beautiful mountains and meadows, spectacular skies and serene lakes. It has enough lush forests, flowered fields, and sandy beaches. It has plenty of stars and the promise of a new sunrise and sunset every day. What the world needs more of is people to appreciate and enjoy it.

Wednesday of Hope – Larger than Imagination

Hope is not dead, it is just larger than our imaginations.

Peace in Yosemite Valley

Peace on earth will come to stay,
When we live Christmas every day.

Why Is It So Difficult for Us to Believe?

Today’s reading in the 3rd Thursday of Advent is from Isaiah 54

So God has sworn not to be angry with you,
or to rebuke you.
Though the mountains leave their place
and the hills be shaken,
My love shall never leave you
nor my covenant of peace be shaken,
says our God, who has mercy on you.

This snowy, seemingly immovable, granite mountain is in Yosemite.

We can believe that the mountains can’t be moved, but we have difficulty believing that God’s love would never leave us.
Let our Advent task be to find our hope in the love of God toward us, stronger and more faithful than anything we know.

For the Beauty of the Earth

Our hymn at morning prayer today was “For the Beauty of the Earth.”

half dome, sunset, yosemite

Half Dome at Sunset

 For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies;
For the love which from our birth,
Over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our hymn of grateful praise.

For the wonder of each hour,
Of the day and of the night;
Hill and vale and tree and flow’r,
Sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind’s delight;
For the mystic harmony,
Linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our hymn of grateful praise.
